View Full Version : Test Drive Unlimited scores highly with European Media
Don't take Atari's word for it – Europe's top gaming media are full of praise for Test Drive Unlimited…
"Should you buy Test Drive Unlimited? The unequivocal answer is yes. You will not play a more polished or realistic racing game on any other console out there and it sets new standards of excellence on Xbox 360. We can safely say that Test Drive Unlimited is the new king of racing games."
9/10 – Classic Award X360 magazine, UK

I wouldn't say its perfectly polished though, it has many bugs which credit to Atari they have already started fixing in the first patch but still. But yeah I am loving the game, never had such fun in ages.

I wasnt impressed with demo 1 and demo 2 was a little better, but I took the chance and have loved every moment so far. Words can not describe what its like to hop on the freeway and just drive. It is remarkable that you can continue to drive for hours and it continues to stream off the disk. If your unsure about the game hire it and give it a few hours. PS Ive almost got enough money to get XBW a spot in a club house.

All this talk of TDU is making me want the game more and more...
I loved the first demo and was pumped for the full game to come out. Then I played the 2nd demo and I promptly turned it off. I hated it, it didn't do anything for me.
By the sounds of it, its actually an awesome game. Once I finish COD2 I'll go shopping :)

Yeah "were" selling the UK copy too bad I missed out so I've just been renting it from DVDCrave instead.
For anyone who wasn't into the handling of the cars in the demo you'll be suprised that you do get used to it after a while. Only thing that sucks handling wise is that some cars do not have their real-time drive layout as in all cars seem to be RWD only yet they do give the impression that they are AWD or whatever. So basically cars tend to be cookie cutter copies of each other with only slight differences in power and torque. Bike still aren't great and I tend to avoid them but I can see that you would get used to it like the cars it would just take more time.
@Flaps - I never played the first demo so I can't comment but I would have assumed the second demo was better.

This is from their store front here in Adelaide mate, they hire out games like a Video Store so you pay for say two nights so its not like a monthly thing such as The Re-entertainer or whatever its called.

Playing the demo and playing the final release is like chalk and cheese, they are so different. The final product has well and truely exceeded my expectations.

looks excellent, awesome cars, the open ended map and the way the sp and mp challenges are laid out is truly revolutionary...
but...
i just bought a F430 and at top speed theres soooo much popup and chugging as content is streamed from the DVD that its almost unbearable. especially when some of the challenges are so hard to beat and you're always missing it by a fraction of a second.
thats not fun, thats just poor design :(
i cant imagine how worse it gets with even faster cars like the Saleen.

Of course there's pop-up but I wouldn't say its unbearable, I've got a A Class Lambo and its top speed is like 309Km/h and it doesn't really bother me. I've had the game fail to load scenery sometimes which resulted in my car falling into hell. So yeah the game has some streaming problems. You can't even leave the game paused for more then 10-15 mins because it will usually freeze the system or you get a disc read error because the disc wasn't keep spinning or something.

Once you get out of the cities it's definately not as bad. But i can't believe that the developers would play other racing games such as Forza, PGR3, Gran Tourismo and then make the damn steering in TDU so twitchy...
Also what's up with not being able to buy a bike until you 'discover' every car yard.. that sucks also. By 'discover' does that mean just find them on the map or do you have to go into each one? Damn i wish they'd provide manuals with promo/review copies.
I'm finding it a fairly addictive game though and as i've already said, the online / offline 'melding' is absolutely awesome... i just think that the handling doesn't feel %100 to me.. :(
