Fellas, I recently moved house. Been off the forums for a few months as a result.

Anyway, I've set up my 360 with a new (very fast) cable internet connection.

Set it all up exactly as always, linked the new cable modem to the 360 via a USB cord, put in the new ISP details, put it all on and I can't log in AT ALL to LIVE.

I get a "Network Adapter not connected" message EVERY time.

It's driving me nuts. I can't work out why it doesn't work. I've checked the modem and it's on and flying. Web pages etc all flying.

Could it be the 360 doesn't recognise the USB cord from the modem or something? Or is there something really simple I am missing.

Any help appreciated BIG TIME!

I don't think you can use a USB cord for Xbox Live... You'll need a network cable to hook it up.

Also, from what you've said, you're PC is connected through the modem as well? So the modem itself is connecting to the internet? This means you shouldn't have to input ISP details into your 360(which sounds like what you said you did). You just need to put in the modems IP, DNS, etc.

Assuming your Modem has both ethernet and USB connections and you've got your PC using the ethernet, swap them over and see how things go.

yeah i dont think u can use USB for the 360. just hook the ethernet up to it and the USB to the computer. or go buy a $20 switch and hook them both up via ethernet. even if the 360 was able to connect via usb you wouldnt want to do it cause the latency is a lot worse using usb for gaming.

Yeah, Internet shouldn't ever really be of USB, as the CPU processing will slow down the 'net speed. If you're Modem only has USB connections, then you'll need to USB it to the puter, then share that connection via the PC to the Xbox via Ethernet.

Ick I use a USB connection for my ADSL and run an ethernet cable out to my 360. I think I'll be changing that now. Never really noticed any trouble with net performance, though I've never really had my net running off the ethernet cable so never seen if there was a difference.

Yeah, might be something to look into Jess. But if you don't notice any major lacking in speed, it's prolly nothing to worry about. But a USB modem can put load the CPU, and even when you're offline.

if you use usb you will still be able to download at full speed, its just the response times that are slower. i remember i was able to play counter strike source with a ping of 60 and when i changed to USB that went to 200.

Cheers for all the advice fellas.Very much appreciated.

I switched the cables as suggested and now the network adapter is connected.

HOWEVER, I can't get past the DNS part.

Xboxlive finds my ISP address fine, but the DNS fails every time.

I rang my ISP and got the DNS off them, manually typed it in...but it still fails.

No matter what I do, the DNS fails.

This is starting to drive me nuts!

Pretty sure that you will need a router or PC running ICS. I know that Telstra cable uses a heartbeat which the XBOX 360 will not understand. Not sure if Optus cable has a similar setup.

I am not that literate in computing stuff :) What does the router do that my modem won't etc?
