Hi, I'm one of the few who're desperately wanting to purchase Xbox 360 but is hesistated at the moment because I'm not sure of product stability.

It's generally proven any hardware has faulty issues at its early launch and the issues are slowly resolved as the product manufacturer releases an upgraded model every year or so. PS2 is the clear example. And I've heard this news from a friend of mine that Microsoft is looking into releasing an advanced Xbox 360 console. Apparenlty, the console will be of the same calibre as the older model but without the problem of heating, disk error, noise and etc.

Has anyone heard this similar news? If so, when do you foresee it coming? Do you think I should wait for the newer model? ( In other words, the so-called "Noise from the machine" or "heating issue" are beyond annoyance?)

The only "new" xbox 360 model coming out is next year sometime. The only difference is that they use a new manufacturing process for the CPU so it uses less PCB board, its still gives the exact same performance, just produces a bit less heat (an insignificant amount). This new manufacturing process is just to cut down on costs, not to fix any "problems".

So there's no point in waiting, just buy one and if it stuffs up you have a one year warranty so you can always get it replaced/fixed. There are only two different dvd drives you can get atm, a hitatchi or samsung, and from user feedback both can either be noisy or quiet.

I doubt that there will be a new model anytime soon. By now Microsoft will be planning the next console and will have people working on software for the current 360. It is my bet we will see a lot of software upgrades for this puppy so we can do a lot more stuff with it. It is early days still.....

My 360 runs very cool so no problems there to be fixed.
