According to this, MS are going to redesign the 360 controller to make an "advanced" controller, specifically for FPS and related games. I'm pretty optimistic about this, the current controller is awesome for FPS, so this new one should be amazing.

Could they be going with a 360 version of that FPS sidewinder controller they made for PC?

that one with the ball like thing in the middle that let you rotate the controller around and crap. That thing was gay IMO.

I doubt it. I remember when MS was asked about the PS3 controller, they said it was similar to the Sidewinder, and they said people just didn't like it. Having said that, I hope they don't decide to jump on the motion-sensing bandwagon, I'd like to see something different to what Nintendo and Sony are offering.

 The ps3 controller is nothing like the original sidewinders.

The original sidewinder was kickass, and when the original xbox came out i was hoping they'd base the controller on the sidewinder.

Maybe you mean the ps3 controller is like the sidewinder freestyle which had motion sensors. But even then, only similarity is the motion sensor. That was a good controller too, but wouldnt have sold to well cos not too many games supported it.

it takes a little getting used to but playing fps games is FINE on the x360.

:chortle: :chortle: :chortle: lol! haha, I really hope that they DO NOT include motion sensing, it's bad enough that Sony ripped that off the Wii, I am getting a 360 for the pure basis it's just a straight next gen console :) I don't wanna work out playing every video game, the Wii will satisfy that catagory plenty :) But if it makes FPS games better then I'm all for it :)

But when does 'ripping off' a design end? If all the other companies didn't rip off one another then gaming would'nt be where it is now.

yeah. nintendo certiantly wernt the first ones to try this motion sense concept. if someone takes someone elses idea i've got no problems with it as long as they put their own spin on it. sony seem to have taken the wii-mote idea and made it worse so good luck to them.

does nintendos control have a proper name? i never know what to call it :D

Um I have one of these old controllers and I can confirm that they work with any game and therefore are supported by anthing. They just function as a normal 2 axis controller plus throttle. The problem was that they weren't right at all for many types of games - they were awesome for motorbike games, and after that it just didn't work that well (OK for a bit of assing about in flight sims too, but nowhere near as good as a stick) - same will go for the PS3 controller, very few games will work well on it and the ones that do will be built almost specifically with the controller in mind.

I dearly hope they don't do that. K/B and Mouse is the weirdest way ever to play video games. The Xbox is in the lounge not on a desk in a geeky little hovel. I've nothing against the K/B and Mouse combo and actually have gaming roots on the PC (I know it's the most precise too), but I just don't care, once you get good on a Controller you are just as good (within limits) and you can do it in comfort in the lounge. PC kids need to suck it up and move on, else go back and play on the PC with all your friends, don't try to PCify consoles.

It's called the Wii-mote, I think.

Yep you're right there, but was just dissapointing at E3 how all of a sudden PS3 had motion sensing at the last minute, and just looked much worse, I'd prefer dual shock vibration then half assed motion sensing.

this is great news.. I for one couldnt care less about the design. My concern is functionality. It takes a great deal of skill to be an excellant FPS player with a controller, they need to make it easier. I think Nintendo have the idea... I say two controllers, one for each hand... completely independant of each other, maybe motion sensing is the way to go.

I really don't find there to be anything at all wrong with the 360 controller, it's probably the best I've ever used actually. Nor do I find it lacking for FPSes, and I for one won't be buying some gimmicky, limited-use controller just so I can be teh ub3r 1337 in halo 3 multiplayer...

I agree, the 360 controller is by far the best controller I've ever used, and I've played em all since the Atari 2600 paddles. I dont see the need for FPS controller, I already prefer the 360's controller over the mouse and keyboard setup.

People say the Duke for the original xbox was a better FPS controller, maybe they'll look at something like that

Yeah, the Duke ruled. I really like the 360 controller though.

I just wish all the games developers would use a standardised control setup so I dont have to relearn what button does what with every FPS.

I would have to say the current X360 controller is near perfect for FPS games. I play in the comfort of the lounge, which really doesn’t accommodate a mouse and keyboard. Actually, I often find myself using the X360 controller on the PC rather than the keyboard. I really get fed up using a mouse these days.
