Thinking about finally dropping some coin and picking up a 360 but have a question or two about it first.

Is it worth getting one and using it on a normal TV? Am I under the wrong impression that games won't look or play much different to the current XBOX?

Also, is there a chance that Microsoft could bring out a different 360 after I buy one? I thought I read somewhere about a heat issue and that was going to be added in or something.

Any info would be great. Especially about the TV. Whether or not a HDTV makes the 360 experience or not.

Thanks

It's a huge difference over Xbox 1, HD or not.

HDTV will certainly provide you with an awesome 360 experience, but you'll also have a blast with it on a normal TV - you will notice a big difference between the Xbox and 360 either way.

I actually think the biggest improvement, after graphics and processing power, is the shift to 5.1 sound. That, for me, is much more immersive than anything else and I'm lovin' the 360 even on my SD telly. Shane also mentioned to me that he was more impressed with the shift to widescreen than the higher resolution.

Nice.

Thanks guys. What I was hoping to hear.

Moving in with a mate and he wants me to get one. I want to get one but he's only got a 66cm CRT. Not a bad one but not a HDTV and was wondering if it was worth it while on a TV like that.

Anyone heard anything on that 2nd question? I'll see if I can find where I read it. Something about heat and maybe the 360 getting a new part to deal with it.

Well I've left my 360 on for well over 10 hours multiple times and it hasn't overheated at all. I guess you just need to have it well ventilated. MS probably will re-release it with better heat reduction or something but not for a while is my guess - so you gotta decide whether waiting for it is worth all the cool games you could be playing in the meantime ;)

Yeah.

If it's anything over 5-6 months I'll get one now and looks like it will be well over that.

The 360 is fine on standard definition TVs, The only thing you have to watch out for is that some games (such as Gun) override the 360's screen format setting and play in widescreen, thus the big black bars. But most games are fine.

As for overheating, I have never had a problem and several times I've accidentally left it on all day. The only ones I've ever seen overheat are in stores like Big W where the 360 in in a tiny unventilated glass cabinet and is left on all day.

I was playing my Xbox 360 on my 51cm crt and it was great, everrything looked good and since most 360 games have AA their wasn't alot of jaggies.

as for overheating, my 360 heats up a bit and it will occasionly freeze because of it so i bought a cheap little desk fan and just pointed it at the 360 and it hasn't froze once since then.

As lothar1 said get a good 5.1 souround sound set up and you will be in gaming heaven.

I have my 360 hooked up to a 68cm SDTV and it's still very, very good. I have played it on my HDTV out in the living room and the only game I found had a noticable difference in picture quality was GRAW. However, the colours were so much more vibrant but that could have just been the difference in TVs not pure resolution.

360 on a normal CRT is good.

360 on HDTV is fantastic.

360 on HDTV and XBL is happy time! :spin:

This why I have splashed the cash and bought a new Samsung 32' LCD. Got it cheap through a mate(employee purchase, not off the back of a truck) so I am still waiting for it.....:banghead:

After seeing the 360 on my mates 55' HDTV I had to get HD.

Its like driving a turbo car. Whats the point of driving it off boost? Your not using the cars potential.

Cool.

Mates CRT is widescreen so that'll be ok. It'll only be for a while anyway (6-8 months) then I'll move out and pick up a very nice HDTV :)

FNR3 still looked crazy and a crapload better then FNR3 on Xbox 1 on my very outdated 48cm CRT TV connected via composite video cable...only thing is tho the text was a little hard to read im sure that would be fixed up tho via the component cables.
