The third season of Battlestar Galactica is premiering in October, and the Sci-Fi channel is pulling out all the stops to promote it. It has put together a television special, titled Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far, summing up the key events of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries and its first two seasons. The special will air on all the cable stations owned by Sci-Fi parent NBC Universal, which includes Bravo and USA, as well as the West Coast affiliates of the NBC broadcast TV network.

NBC Universal will also be targeting gamers with its PR offensive by releasing The Story So Far on Xbox Live Marketplace in its entirety. Though both seasons of Battlestar Galactica are already available on iTunes, the special will be the "first long-form program ever to be offered" on Xbox Live.

[UPDATE] NBC Universal reps told GameSpot that the Battlestar Galactica episode would be free of charge and available in mid-September. The rep was unclear as to the size of the download.

Could be a sign of things to come.

wow thats awesome.. wonder if it would be in HD, an hour long tv show would be a huuuuuuuuuuge download... probably too big for the hard drive.

Yer, it'll be a 480p movie no doubt. MS better get some bigger HDD's out becuase at this rate my HDD has been full nearly twice :spin:

Well I downloaded a few of the 1080p/720p HD vids from the MS website, and from what I can see its about 1meg for every second.

So a half hour eposide (which is about 20-25 minutes not including adds?) is about 1.2-1.5 gig. So thats not too bad considering some demos are over a gig anyways.

A 720p TV episode in xvid is about 1.4GB which isn't too bad at all, except it's also 10% of the space you have available on the puny HDD :( That and they probably wouldn't be using that type of file/compression, so it'd end up being biggger...maybe 15-20% of your HDD.

But if someone was to transfer them to PC and upload them as a torrent so I could store it on my 640GB of HDD space, that'd be pretty awesome :D

At this stage though they're only talking about a recap episode really, which is a great free promotional tool for them to get people psyched about s03 of the show, but until actual episodes of things start appearing, I'm not going to get too excited.

I wonder if FTA here will even BOTHER to show Season 3 given the SHAMEFUL way they are currently treating Season 2.:banghead:

By that I'm guessing you meant because they haven't shown it yet. It shits me that it hasn't been on. However the DVD box set comes out this week so I'm just going to buy that instead.

and tv studios wonder why people download pirated tv series.

That's my point.

It HAS been on.

Though I actually don't blame you for not knowing that, because the amount of Hype/Promotion/Featuring - hell just plain Advertising for it is practically non-existent!

Just checked the TV guide and there it is. I had no idea. Useless bloody channel 10. Might have helped if they advertised it.

Like most previews like this, this will probably only come out on the US Marketplace

Perhaps, but it is very simple to make a US silver account.
