Now the full version has been released in the US and it seems to be getting decent reviews, however one thing that the peeps seem to be consistantly crying about is the timed missions and save system.
I keep reading these comments - and from sites like gamespot that its possible to "save yourself into a corner" not leaving enough time to get to the next mission from the save point.

I'm confused by this, if you were running out of time for a mission, you're running out regardless if you saved or not. The game seems to be played out in (accelerated) real time. I don't see how the save system can make things worse for you if your'e not where you're supposed be be at a certain time.
Unless reviewers are expecting that somehow saving should magically wind the clock back several hours so you can get to the next mission in time?

The problem is that you can only have one save per storage device(so one save for most people). The problem people have isn't that they are saving during missions, it's saving in between missions. Each story mission begins at a certain time and place, so if you spend too much time killing zombies between missions and then save(overwriting your old save), you may be too far away to ever get to the next story mission. This doesn't actually end the game though, you just can't continue on with the main story(cause the case goes cold).

But from what I have read, if this happens(and maybe even at other times), you can save just the character progression, and restart the game using this, essentially making you super powered at the start of the game.

Hmm, ok I see what you're saying. However doesn't the fact still remain that the save isnt making the situation worse by saving. You're still out of time because you wasted too much time mooching about killing zombies as the game goes by in real time, you weren't going to get there in time anyway.

I can see this might be a problem if you say, completed a mission, saved. Then mooched about and saved again overwriting your old and leaving you with (x-time < mooch) to get to the next mission. It still seems logical though, given the real time nature of the game. maybe ppl should watch more 24

The attribute saving system is odd though, it seems like one option is to ignore the quest, run about levelling up then restart the main plot at max power.

I'm not clear yet whether the missions (cases?) ALL have to be completed in one run through to 'beat' the game or they can be completed over multiple runs

Exactly, it's because people are saving at bad times, and they have no previous saves to fall back on.

All the cases(story missions) need to be completed in order to unravel the story. As far as I know, the helicopter(your escape out of the mall) will still turn up in 72 hours regardless of whether you completed all the story missions.
