Hey Guys!
After putting it off for quite some time (could it be? :chortle: ) lol! haha I am thinking of getting a 360 :) Just thinking, it may be better to get an NTSC console. Seeings as games usually come out over there first and more chance of being able to play NTSC-J games (or not?). It's around the same time too, so I was just wondering, are there any dissadvantages of having a NTSC 360?
Thanks alot guys!
Cheers
Sam.

hehe,, i got ntsc,
Advantages:
Cheaper games, ( max you pay is $80 for Title that just comes out, )
Earlier games, dead rising comes out august 8, takes me 5 days to come = Cheaper plus 3 weeks earlier than AUS Release :P
Disadvantages:
No warrenty, well there is but you need to send it to someone in US to do it for you..
Takes 5 days for games to arrive..
Power converter
No Dvd
I am happy with my ntsc saving heaps of money on games :P ;),, and earlier,, thats probobably why i got 18 games :P ;)

PersianWarrior, why would an NTSC 360 have no dvd player? Im sure it would just have a region 1 dvd player

I think he meant not being able to ply Australian bought disks. Unless you import all you movies from the US, you wouldn't be able to use the 360 to play movies.
I would personally go for NTSC-U rather than J.

I would still go for PAL...You get a warranty, just import the region free games,no need for power converter..etc. I wouldnt bother with an NTSC quite a few 360's there are faulty...

I'm thinking of getting NTSC myself but I'm not sure. I've already got a 360. It would be like $700 or more to bring one into the country, so while I'll be saving money, how long would it be before I got my $700 back?
The good thing is I already have a PAL power adapter so I don't need a step down transformer. Also I wonder if MS Australia will do any sort of warranty repair. I already have a dead EU machine, which fortunately MS will fix with out question.
I hate paying more than $100 for a game, so maybe it's worth importing. In hindsight I should have probably got NTSC in the first place.

where are you getting your facts from? 'quite a few'? no, a very small percentage of 360s are faulty, and that percentage is the same across the world.

sell your PAL one, and then the difference will likely be about $200. It won't be long until you make up the $200

I already have PDZ, PGR3, Oblivion CE, and GR:AW too, I'll have to think about it.
Oblivion and GR:AW are region free.

Thanks heaps mate! I already have a Region Free dvd player, and I wouldn't use anything else for dvd's so that doesn't worry me, and I'm used to the 5 day delay :) haha I import stuff all the time, and being a former customer of dvdsoon, i've learnt to wait months for stuff to arrive :banghead: haha. Thanks again mate! Also whats a power converter / how much?

All up from dvdboxoffice it's $665 for the premium console (inc. Postage) :) Which is around the same price it is here :)

Sorry mate yeah I meant a NTSC-U console, but what i mean is some of the NTSC-J games are unlocked for NTSC-U also but not Pal :) If that makes sense :)

lol yeah what Staz said man, it's not like theres more faulty 360's in America :chortle: And what about the non region free games that you wanna grab?
Thanks for the comments so far, it's looking appealing, though I would have to save for a few weeks :)

You should also try ringing up MS and asking about purchasing a replacement power adapter. Don't know how much they would be. I spose you could say your little brother put it in the toilet, if they ask. :)

I just bought a US console, no regrets whatsoever.
Looking forward to cheaper games, quicker arrivals, more variety and less censorship in the years to come!

If you're going to be buying all your games a NTSC console is the way to go for sure, but I personally use The Rentertainer to play pretty much all my games so a PAL is better for me. All depends on what you plan to do about obtaining the games. If the convenience of just being able to walk down to the shops and pick up a game is worth it to you, get a PAL. If not, go NTSC.

Hey Guys!
Thanks so much for the help so far,
very close to a decision, only thing holding me back is how much cheaper the NTSC-J console is from Lik-Sang. Just want to know what the dis-advantages of getting an NTSC-J console are?
i.e manuals/games not in english? region locks? ect.
Thanks again guys! You're all a massive help
Cheers
Sam.
Lack of games is the main reason. Games are far cheaper but there are far less available

lol in that case it's probably better to pay the extra $50 haha, although looking at the play asia guide, most of the NTSC-U games are compatible on NTSC-J ahh all too confusing.

Most NTSC-U games are compatible with J... So i would just get a J.Only disadvantage is manuals and stuff in japanese...
Yer lately games seem to be compatible accross those to NTSC regions. A jap 360 isnt such a bad choice if the trend continues

Hey Guys!
I was nearly certain I was going to get an NTSC-J Asian console (reason being it has a 220V power supply) which means no step down converter :D But... by chance I stumbled across a page and forum where people were saying not all NTSCJ games work on the asian console!!! :banghead: Does anyone know if this is true or have read this and can confirm it? If it is it looks like I'll have to grab the Japanese version of the console with a step down converter..
Thanks
Sam.

haha thanks mate! umm the consoles themselves arent that cheap (getting mine from play-asia)($615 inc. Shipping), and about the games thing, yeah but so far it seems as though even most NTSC-U games are coded to work for NTSC-J, (even dead rising) so yeah I'm not too worried about that as at the moment NTSC-J is boomin! By the time there may be a problem with that, I'd have enough cash to get a different console :)
EDIT:// forgot to adress the language point, haha yeah thought about that, but for some of the awesome just fun hack n slashes (example N3) I don't mind missing out on some story to play the games months and months in advance, plus so far N3 and Enchanted Arms the two main J-RPG's have english support with subtitles :)

I got a NTSC-J console nearly at launch. Have 26 games so far.. and another 10 on order.. wouldnt have that many if it wasnt for paying $55 a game.
I ended up buying an Aussie Power supply so now i dont have the issue with needing a power convertor. That would have been the biggest thing that sucked before.
I would say the disadvantages are:
DVD cant play Region 4 movies.
Step Down Power Convertor- 110v - 240v
Fact that some games are released first in other countries before Asia release. ie Table Tennis.
MS Australia wont support warranty. Is chargeable.
Advantages
Games are $55 each. (Need I say more?)
Games often come out before other countries.
JAP Release games not released elsewhere.
