Hi guys.

KMart wrote in its latest catalogue that they were discontinuing stock of xbox and xbox games. Similarly, the local EB said that they weren't going to continue stocking.

Does anyone know if this is them or Microsoft? I remember Microsoft said that they would continue releasign titles for the original xbox for a time. Is this the end of 'time'?

Is the 360 going to finally shine alone?

What's your thoughts?

(PS Wasnt sure if this was meant to go in original xbox or 360? Curly one thats for sure!)

Hmmm, well considering more titles are being developed for Xbox i cant see it being a move on Microsofts behalf. I guess will soon see though

Thats really surprising to me... There are still way more Xbox owners then 360 owners, and how much revenue can they make off the 360 alone with its half a dozen decent games?
Though I guess it ties in with Big W's recent clearance sale too.

I'll be pissed off in advance for all the Xbox owners who have not yet forked out for a 360. This is one area where I give kudos to Sony. They supported the PSone for years after the PS2 came out.

guess its up to the retailers whether they sell them or not. maybe they arent selling well so they arent stocking them anymore.

Well, I could understand large department stores like Kmart, Big W, etc phasing out old consoles fairly quickly, but generally the gaming specific stores keep stocking games for a while after(even if it is just second hand stuff).

JB Hifi dont stock Xbox consoles anymore, thats why they were cleared out at $99.

However there still supporting the Xbox with games and accesories. I dont think theres any profit to made on the Xbox anymore, so shops arent bothering to sell it.....where as the 360 they do make profit.

Why do you suppose the EB is getting rid of them then? Seems a bit daft for a gaming store...

Especially considering they just stockpiled all the second hand ones they could find (you know the trade in thing)?

Weird.

So games are still being made for the original xbox. Interesting. Who will be selling them? lol

My local EB said they are trying to clear out old xbox consoles, and hardware, but will keep stocking new release titles until they become less in demand.

Development for the Xbox finishes next year. The hardware has already been discontinued and shops are just running off stock. No one wants to get left with something they can't sell. There are 2 main reasons why they shrink the sections down in all shops:

1. Demand slowly goes down over time. Once silly season begins the uptake of new consoles and games will increase dramtically.

2. To provide more shelf space for current systems.
