Breath a sigh of relief. Although I would have just imported anyway :)
Violent zombie horror game Dead Rising was given an MA15+ rating by Australia's OFLC yesterday, despite being refused classification in Germany.
The Xbox 360 game, which sees players controlling a photo-journalist forced to battle hordes of the undead, was deemed too violent in Germany because of the manner in which players must hack and slash enemies to fend them off.
Developer Capcom says there are "over 250 items to cause mayhem with, including skateboards, severed arms and circular saws".
Like Australia, Germany has regularly taken a hard line on controversial video games, with publishers often required to produce censored versions.
OFLC's consumer advice for Dead Rising says the game contains "Strong horror violence, blood and gore". It will be released in Australia on September 14.

The Germans also have a very strong policy about showing of the Swastika. Basically it's not allowed except in a historical context or broken / crossed out.
Not sure if Dead Rising has any Swastikas in it though. But I know it's got Red Necks, so maybe they wear nazi armbands or something...
youd think they would leave that out (if it is in there) it would suck missing out on all those sales just so you can have a swastika in your game.

You see it got passed cause the is no natural carresing of two loving adults!! so hacking and slashing is always going to get the nod over the naked form of a human!

Looking forward to this one. After watching the trailer on Live the visuals look pretty weak though, like an Xbox game.

I don't think there is any Swastika's to speak of but here are some of their guidelines:
Blood must be green or no blood at all
No decapitations
No Excessive Violence
No Nazis or references to the Third Reich.
It's interesting to note that when a game is 'banned' they have an index rating for games that are rated over 18. This allows a business to sell the copy of the game under the counter , so to speak. They are not allowed to advertise the game in any way (posters) or display the game, but they can still sell it to anyone that can prove that they are over 18.
In this case though Dead Rising has been refused classification and won't be sold in Germany at all. Other games that have fallen under the same classification are Manhunt & Return To Castle Wolfenstein.

Actually I might have seen it on the OAXM demo disk, though I'd have thought it would have been on Live too.

goodness oh so many games coming out im getting overwhelmed.
i may have to give this a miss or sacrifice enchanted arms which i don't think will happen.
unfortunately this launches 1 month after the US launch in AUS :( lucky i have an ntsc console or id be pissed

I feel like an idiot when I have to wait ages for australian releases of games.
I can see msyelf ditching the pal x360 for an ntsc version.
or failing that buying all my games for ps3 instead which is rumoured to be totally region free. (after november of course)
yes I can see how it does get annoying. US games are cheaper too.
