I use Logitech Z 680's for my Xbox and run an advanced Av cable with an optical lead.
This used to work sweet but since using the 680's on my Dvd player I have had troubles getting my Xbox to run them again. I plug the optical cord into the box and it doesn't detect any digital data; so I move the cable around and get all this static type noise.
Do you think it's the AV cable? It can't be the optical because it works fine for the digital set top box and its new.
Any one else had the same problem?
Any feedback appreciated.

This probably won't be the solution to your problem but the same thing happened to me once. When I switched the optical cable from my PS2 to the Xbox it wouldn't work.
So I checked to see if the cable was in properly and it felt like it was, wasn't wriggling around or anything. I then pushed it in harder and it clicked in, and worked! :)
I'm not saying you're as stupid as me, just thought I'd offer a possible solution, regardless of how simple it was. ;)

I had a similar problem with my 680's - like JB said I hadn't 'clicked' the optical cable in properly on the output from the xbox advanced av cable. The 680s also have a fuse in the back of the sub-woofer. If the fuse is blown you won't get any sound but the whole unit will still look like it is on. You're getting sound out of your set-top box so it is unlikely to be this. If you have the spare fuse that came with the 680s it is worth a try. Optical cables can be fragile though.

Can that fuse "kill" a particular channel (in my case the right rear has stopped working some months ago - yeah I did the cable and speaker swap thingie - it's the channel in the sub)...??

I doubt it. Once the fuse is blown, it's blown and you won't get any sound from any speakers. The control unit display will still be on though.

When the fuse went in my sub, the control center had no power.

Tried everything an its still a no go, so maybe it is the AV cable.
Thanks for all the feedback.

You could borrow a mates AV cable and if it works then you know that the problem was indeed your AV cable. :)
