Hey guys,

With all the talk of the region free games, and being able to pick them up cheaper, I was just wondering where the best place to get them from would be?

As I have not ordered any games/hardware from overseas in about 2 years, I have no idea what the best and/or cheapest site's are.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Cheers! :)

UPDATE:

After some research, here are the costs of importing Call of Duty 2:

- DVD Box Office (http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/): $82.78

- Lik-Sang (http://www.lik-sang.com/): $93.45

- Video Games Plus (http://www.videogamesplus.ca/): $86.77

- Tronix (http://www.tronixweb.com/): $91.91

- CD-WOW (AUS - cd-wow.biz) (http://www.cd-wow.biz): $99.95

- CD-WOW (UK - cd-wow.com) (http://www.cd-wow.com/): $96.50

- eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/): $73.45*

* Please note: Obviously, prices will vary. You should be able to find it for around that price or cheaper, don't pay anymore than about $75.

Also note: These prices were converted from US/CAD$ into AUD$ so prices will slightly vary, depending on the exchange rate.

Keep in mind postage can be epensive so your saving around $20-35 a game not $40-50 ... still good though.

troxon charges $35 usd freight if you pick the fast fedex freight its only $15 but since its to australia they make you pay another $20 extra
does anyone know if www.videogamesplus.ca does the same because thats a lot of money $35 usd for freight

this was the message i got from them when i orderd 2 games lately freight was $15usd and they added another $20usd so i end up paying $35 usd freight

NOTE: We discovered that your area of Australia is marked by FedEx as an
"extended zone" and Fedex charges an extra $20.00 shipping because they
use a subcontracted company to go the extra distance from their main
hub.

http://www.dvdboxoffice.com are pretty good, if they got the game in stock, most of the time it leaves the next day. If it isn't in stock, there is no indicator to how long you may be waiting.

Free postage is a nice bonus, but I'm sure the cost gets added in somewhere.

Just doing some research on some of the sites provided and I've listed the cost of Call of Duty 2 from each site below, these prices include shipping.

DVD Box Office: $82.78
Lik-Sang: $93.45
Video Games Plus: $86.77
CD-WOW: $94.99

At those prices, and with the worry of if I'm actually going to recieve my game undamaged or at all, I may just get it here.

I checked eBay and every auction I looked only shipped to the UK or US, depending on which eBay I was looking at.

Can anyone recommend some eBay sellers, or preferrably eBay stores, which will ship here. I don't often look on the US or UK eBay's so I'm just a n00b and require assistance! :D

Thanks in advance!

Mauii

Dont bother looking on US or UK ebay... just go to Advanced search in the australian site and tick the box for items available to australia...

also if your looking specifically for US or UK games then change the chosen currency to USD or GBP...

Odin

i tick the box world wide. It will show what im looking for and show only the sellers that will ship world wide.

Oh and those pirces JB mentioned didnt seem that cheap. Where are the places that sell for around $70 i keep hearing about?

Plus

www.dvdboxoffice.com - despite them not getting enough X360's i've been importing games from them for years and haven't had any problems. In fact they shipped all my X360 games and accessories on launch day. I use this shop the most.

www.ebgames.com - they won't ship official MS developed games or hardware, just 3rd party games and there shipping is pretty expensive so you need to order at least 3 games at once to bring the cost to around $85 a game.

Tronix is great if you're impatient with $15US fedex shipping :)
eBay is excellent otherwise. I get global priority shipping (3-6 days, usually 4) for US$9-10. Games for bargain prices.

I just ordered 2 games from Tronix (NFS:MW and NBA 2K6) and it cost $126USD ($168AU) total. $15US for Fedex for the order.

Maybe one of the games you ordered was not in stock or something so there has to be 2 shipments.

Nah, garry mentioned in the post above that he got charged $20 extra because he is located in what FedEx calls an "extended zone" and they charge an extra $20.00 shipping because they use a subcontracted company to go the extra distance from their main hub. :)

Have you tried Liksang or DVDBoxOffice.

I think they have a DHL Flat Rate fee of $20US.

garry
23-01-2006, 01:13 AM
yeh ive bought a couple things from Liksang before not games controllers and stuff but i notest there game prices are really dear like dead or alive 4 is US$ 69.90 at Liksang where its only US$ 58.00 at tronix US$ 12.00 difference just for one game which is a pitty because yeh there freight is pretty good priced

also yeh with DVDBoxOffice i would be to scared to buy anything from them the way they carried on with peoples preorders for the xbox 360 id be worried if i orderd a game from them they might not have the game and keep my money till they get more stock, that xbox 360 buisness really gave them a bad name for me anyway.

anyone know what the freight prices are with http://www.videogamesplus.ca/ because there game prices are pretty good.

Just an update on my adventure to find the cheapest region-free games... :D

I bought Call of Duty 2 (and it was sent) a few days ago for $73 including postage off eBay. Which isn't a bad price considering the cheapest I've seen it for so far is around $95. I could of found a cheaper copy but I couldn't be bothered searching through eBay auctions to find the best one. :)

It's supposed to be new and sealed so hopefully when (or god forbid "if") it arrives I'll let you know if it was a smooth purchase or not.

Go eBay! :chortle:

The copy of Call of Duty 2 I bought off eBay arived today, it took about a week which is alright, the game was indeed sealed (phew!) and it's in perfect condition.

I was a little worried about the game a) getting damaged in transit and/or b) not coming at all. So needless to say when it came this morning I was very relieved.

Now all I need is a 360. :D

I think their website says 7-14 days.
I ordered DOA4 and Condemned from there. They were shipped on the 1st of Feb, and they haven't arrived yet... :banghead:

Also will the region free games be compatible with xbox live?

You won't need to pay tax unless you order heaps of games at once.
I'm pretty sure you're allowed up to about $1000 worth of stuff (for personal use) before they are allowed to charge you tax, etc.

The games should work fine over Xbox Live. I can't prove it, but I don't see why there would be a problem.

Same here, If I had known it would have been and felt _this_ long I would have just paid that extra bit more and gotten it sooner.

To anyone looking at a free shipping service, my advice... It's just not worth it.

That's extremely poor Karachi, i may avoid them if that is the case. How could it possibly take that long?!?!? Sydney is 8hrs from Honkers!!!!!!

My converter came extremely quickly from lik sang but that was with a courier service.

Can anyone confirm simliar lengths for games from lik sang?

Like I posted. Order shipped on the 1st (I placed the order during their new year holiday period) so far nothing. Last time I ordered from them I used DHL and that was fine, not much longer than 4 days I think.

Yeah thanks Declan, your post wasn't up until mine had been written!

So you can choose to use DHL rather than the free postage? Might just use Tronix, prob cheaper once lik sang DHL shipping included.

Like i said, very disappointed that games take so long to get here from a place as geographically close (in comparison) to us as Honkers. I reckon i could swim there and back within two weeks :pirate:

Yeah, it sucks.. But it's free international shipping, so I can't really complain.
I have ordered things from lik-sang before, and I've had no complaints before(even now, it's free shipping, so meh). I just recommend that if you want it quickly, you pay for faster shipping(I think it was only US$15 or so).

Hey guys,

For all the Firefox users out there, I found this simple XE.com extension a while back and I thought I'd just share it here for people who are importing games that are available in different currencies.

It just adds a button to your toolbar and when you click it you'll get a pop-up box. Then, you simple enter your amount, what currency you're converting the amount from and what amount you're converting it to and then you'll get another small box with the conversion results.

I probably made it sound more difficult to use than it actually is though so just check out the link below for some screenshots and more info. It definately came in handy for me when I was importing CoD2. :)

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=1972

Let me know if you have any trouble with it. Enjoy!

Nah, the latest is version is Firefox 1.5.0.1. You should probably get the new version anyway.

What extensions and themes have you got installed? That's the only problem with updating Firefox, some extensions won't work. Most do now though. :)

would baseball games, and other sport titles that dont rate much of a mention in australia be available in region free versions around the world?

reason being im a baseball junkie, and really ticked off i could never get a baseball game on any of my systems unless i looked overseas - particularly for my ps1 in certain market stalls around bali, malaysia etc etc!

would be so much easier if they could be made region free...

The asia region games are due out in two days. Why is this good? Well, although they have jap region locking, they are in english, they are cheap, and like games in other regions some are region free.

So far COD2 is comfirmed to be region free, and can be bought for $59.32AUD Inc insured airmail (5-10 days)!

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is apparently region free too (havn't found firm confirmation for the asia version, which comes in at $59.32AUD Inc insured airmail too.

v1C will do - and im so sure itll work anyways - in fact every other combination works, and the only one that isnt truly confirmed so far is asian to PAL.

so its gotta be region free.

but yeah ive only used ebay once in my life and prob never will again (way too lazy) so i would be stuck with a copy of a game i don't want for a while until i sell it.

I didn't need to update my X360 at all, it worked straight off the bat.

And there's no chinese writing on it at all - the entire thing is in english!

this maybe common knowledge but thought I would post this here, for PAL users these USA games are not going to work on your PAL 360, thngs may change for some for the "Asian releases" but they usually are the USA versions

NOTE: these are all USA versions tried on PAL consoles

it takes around 6 business days for Play-Asia to send something to me after it ships from HK (I'm in Melb). I've bought over 15 times from Play-Asia, though they recently stuffed up an order of mine and gave me the wrong version of Blazing Angels. They've offered a partial refund, I'm still waiting for that to get processed. In the meantime, I'm still ordering from Play-Asia, but taking care when I press the order button.

With some Asian games being region free in all regions, Play-Asia has become extremely popular - unfortunately that means that their stock is selling out fast. For example, you'll have to wait up to 4 wks for Tomb Raider to ship.

However, I have ordered Moto GP 06 from them. It hasn't been confirmed as region free, yet, and I believe that there's a huuuge likelihood that it will be compatible with PAL/US consoles (as this publisher in the past [for xbox] has released it multiregion, and this isn't predicted to change). For such a good price, I don't think its a high risk, either. One can always resell on ebay for a small loss (as there's still a demand for J games, anyway)

* Please note: Obviously, prices will vary. You should be able to find it for around that price or cheaper, don't pay anymore than about $75.

Also note: These prices were converted from US/CAD$ into AUD$ so prices will slightly vary, depending on the exchange rate.
