How to Enable High Definition on your Unmodded Xbox (PAL)

Note: This is not a hack for playing copied games, you need (EDIT: Randall Flagg - We don't talk about playing copied games at Xbox World) This is simply a tutorial on how to enable High Definition.

Requirements:

• Original copy of MechAssault or Splinter Cell
• An Xbox Memory Card or an Xbox Action Replay or Mega-X-Key device.
• A High Definition compatible TV, Plasma Screen or Projector
• An Advanced High Definition AV pack, Original Microsoft or 3rd Party.

Basically what you need is an original copy of MechAssault or Splinter Cell (not the 'Classics' version). Some non ‘Classic’ versions also do not work so you need to find the right version of the disc. You can tell by looking at the code engraved on the readable side of the game disc (see below).

MECHASSAULT CODE: MS02301L
SPLINTER CELL CODE: US0121OE-L1 1E

Using the GameSave File:

What you need is a Memory Card and the means to place the GameSave files from your PC to the Xbox Memory Card. One way is to purchase something like the Mega-X-Key or Xbox Action Replay. These are devices specially made for people who want to download other people’s Save Games or Cheats and use them on their own Xbox. Another way is to buy an Xbox Controller-to-USB cable from eBay (or make one). With the right Windows drivers this turns your Xbox Controller (Duke or S) into PC Controller. It also turns the Memory Card slots on the controller into what Windows calls a MASS STORAGE DEVICE (USB). Then you can access a Memory Card plugged into your controller from the PC using the free software that comes with Mega-X-Key or Xbox Action Replay.

Getting the GameSave on your Unmodded Xbox:

Before copying the hacked GameSave to your Xbox you need to delete any GameSaves that are already on the Xbox hdd. Meaning GameSaves for MechAssault and Splinter Cell only, not every other GameSave on your Xbox. This can all be done via the Xbox Dashboard. Then you can begin copying your new ‘hacked’ GameSave across to your Xbox hdd. Once this is done you are good to go.

http://img39.exs.cx/img39/7011/Xbox1.jpg

For MechAssault insert disc and load the game. Once in the main menu click on ‘Campaign’ and then select ‘Run Linux’. If you’ve done everything correctly you should see the EvolutionX dashboard and you have successfully modded your Xbox without a modchip! Congratulations!!

For Splinter Cell load up the game, choose "Start Game", select the profile "LINUX" Choose "Check Points" (not "Levels". It causes the screen to turn white and freeze) If you’ve done everything correctly you should see the EvolutionX dashboard and you have successfully modded your Xbox without a modchip!

Congratulations!!

High Definition:

Now it’s time to enable High Definition! Again please note you must have a TV, Plasma Screen or Projector that is High Definition compatible for this to work. You also need the Advanced High Definition AV pack, original M$ or 3rd Party.
First you need to load up your new EvolutionX dashboard. Once in navigate to the Apps section and select ‘Enigmah Video Mode Switchdisc’. Use the B button to change the video mode to NTSC. If your having trouble watch me do it with my Splinter Cell GameSave here. Now turn off your Xbox and turn it back on again without a disc in it.

You should now be viewing the Xbox Dashboard in NTSC video mode. All you need to do now is navigate to Video settings under ‘Settings’ and turn on 480p, 720p and 1080i.

http://img39.exs.cx/img39/637/Xbox2.jpg

That’s it your done! You now have a High Definition Xbox, congratulations!

If you have the latest version of the Xbox Dashboard (5960 or above) then you can view the Xbox Dashboard in 480p by simply holding down the two rear triggers and the two thumb stick buttons all together at the same time. You can also reverse this by simply holding the same buttons down again.

Progressive Scan FAQ
Firstly, many thanks to Nonny and Spud for hooking me up with the informaton on enabling High Definition Modes on a stock pal xbox....

You will still be able to play PAL xbox games on your Xbox even if you have it in NTSC mode
This will not get you banned from Xbox Live
You need the Xbox High Definition Pack to enable Progressive Scan
Modes that are enabled include 480p, 720p, 1080i
You can update your dashboard to use High Definition (When you are in the dashboard hold down the right and left trigger and click in the left and right thumbsticks at the same time)
This procedure is totally reversible. You just need to insert Mech Assault into your xbox and run the save state again and change it back to PAL.
Looking for a List of HD Xbox Titles? Click here (http://www.hdtvarcade.com/ )
To see the differences of each of the video outputs from the Xbox, click here (http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/paulgun/xbox/video/)
to learn more about Progressive Scan I recommend that you read the article on this website:- click here (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_4/dvd-benchmark-part-5-progressive-10-2000.html)
You cannot play NTSC games by using this method as it only changes the output to NTSC not the actual region to NTSC (Some NTSC games will work as they are region free)
If you cannot get the Savestate to load correctly or it makes your Mech Assault Freeze then delete any other Mech Assault Savestates that you might have on the Xbox HDD and try again (Thanks to 7 Stu 7 for this great tip)

is this why this happens to my xbox.

im running it into my Sony Wega via a component cable kit i imported from Lik-Sang. when i play back DVDs they are all choppy and virtually unwatchable. games on the other hand, are fine and definatley have a clearer image than via RCA cables. oh i also have my Xbox set to PAL60.

also how do we know if our tv supports the higher resolutions? :)

from the pics at your site, i can see why people rave about 1080i.. it looks amazing! im definately going to import one of those usb keys as well!

Shane most of the new tv's support NTSC resolutions (e.g. Can you change your TV's colour system to NTSC, Pal and Secam??)

Shane,
re playing dvds in xbox - unmodded boxes do not support progressive scan because of Macrovision lockout. This is standard for NTSC as well as pal.

Playing dvds with xbox is only good with older style tvs imho, on my projector it's pretty bad quality.

1080i is HDTV land it's a pity the xbox doesn't have dvi out.... pity also not that many games support it.

just checked your tv's specs shane, it won't do 1080i native. But it won't have a problem compressing down. However, I am not sure you will be able to tell the difference on a normal size tv.

yer it wont do it, it does 480p (if the xbox had the option) and yer, its not really worth my while tinkering around with it. my wega has 1250 lines of resolution compared to the normal 625 in PAL tv's so everything looks shit hot on it anyway ;)

it has a 'game' mode that bumps the refresh rate up a notch from 50hz to 60hz i think? there was a 100hz version of it but that was another $1k on top of what this one cost. i can only imagine how sweet stuff would look with its DRC1250 support running at 100hz.... droool.

but, this tv will do me for another 8-10 years unless something drastic happens to it. then ill lash out on a nice phat 120+cm widescreen HD plasma or even hopefully OLED will be standard by then.

i cant complain about my tv, it kicks arse :) and im going to order one of those memory cards. if more people had them i would have a section of the site with a big file library of saves.

HD pack provides component
Advance AV provide s-video and the annoying thing is you can't do progressive with s-video; still s-video is alot better than standard composite.
Oh, my epson project cost only $1800, maybe you'd want to have a look at that for your next purchase. Sony just released a black screen such that any projectors can be used in daylight.

TheOne - does your tv support progressive scan? if it does I would suggest you use a dvd player with pal/ntsc progressive as the quality difference is dramatic.

EB told me the best i could get is an S Video adapter to improve the image. They are lying. Try and find a HDTV Pack for your Xbox. It supports component (Ie, 3 normal yellow video plugs and 2 sounds ones).

They were recalled quickly after launch here in Australia but you'll be able to find one on Ebay/Lik-sang for sure.

The good thing about the MS hidef pack is it has optical audio out. I don't see the point of having a hi-def pack but only having 2 channel audio output - which seems to be what the other cable have.

I am trying to get the hidef pack from ebay.

Most of the hidef packs I have seen on ebay do not include the patch cable (The component cables) and only include the adapter. But, the sellers don't mention this on the auction. So I would advise you to contact the seller before bidding.

This sticky will answer your first question.

http://www.xboxworld.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=24251

(In short, its the number of lines used to make a picture on your tv. The higher, the more resolution, the better the picture quality).

You will need a High Deff capable tv to display any one of the above stated resolutions. And they are only available thru the HD AV pack with component output.

None of these resolutions are available with the Std AV Pack (composite output) or the Advanced AV Pack (svideo output).

and then if i change my xbox output to NTSC signal.. i can then use the video options in the dashboard to output to a HDTV signal right?

its werid though.. my Sony WEGA has 2 display modes, DRC-1250 and DRC-Progressive

but if i choose Progressive mode with one of my gamecube games i get no picture.. the cube is connected using DVD Component..

so im assuming my TV isnt compatible... even though there is a progressive option...

Go out and get one of transcoders from vdigi i have one of these and can honestly say this is the best thing since sliced bread. All up it cost me $96.25 including postage, and it only took 7 days to get here! The added bonus with these is that it can be used with any hi def output ie xbox, gamecube, ps2, progressive scan dvd player, and it also comes with a xbox hi def cable with optical out!

Yes once you enable the ntsc and connect up a high def cable then you will see the output options. http://www.vdigi.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=11&Itemid=31

Unfortunately the pal gamecube can not output progressive scan, but if your lucky like me and have a ntsc cube then your in luck.

Correct, change the output to ntsc, plug in a hi deff pack, and the video options in the dash will become available.

Without knowing the model number of your tv, i'd assume it cannot accept any of the hd resolutions unfortunately.

The DRC-1250 mode simulates a hideff image by doubling the amount of lines a std pal image has (625 lines x2 = 1250) (probably works for ntsc aswell?).
And the DRC-Progressive mode should deinterlace any interlaced pal or ntsc signal it receives, turining it into a progressive image.
Actually, thinking about it, DRC-Progressive may only work with ntsc sources, which would explain why you get no picture with this mode using you Pal gamecube.

While these two modes up the quality of a std ntsc or pal image, neither will show as good a quality as a NATIVE ntsc progressive, pal progressive, 720p or 1080i source.

You will need a tv that accepts 480p, 720p and 1080i natively thru component input to make use of the xboxes HD output.

(JFYI, DRC= digital reality correction).

I am able to run the Linux profile using the splinter cell save. I think im missing something though because i cant seem to get the new video options.

In evox i went into utils>settings and under the section titled VIDEO there were two settings. I changed game region from default to ntsc and saved but it did not do the trick (ie cant see new vid options).

Is the reason i cant see the vid options simply because i havent plugged in the hd pack or do i need to run the enigmah video selector to change the setting properly? I couldn't see enigmah anywhere on the evox menu - how do i access it?

Doesn't this trick also allow you to run unsigned code and pirated software as well? I'm probably wrong, but when reading up on mod-chips for my Xbox I could've sworn I saw this same trick listed as one possible way to play imports, as well as 'backups'. If it does allow you to do so, it's probably not the type of thread to be stickied. But like I said, I'm probably wrong.

No, no point at all if you don't have a Hi Deff pack AND a display that can accept progressive scan and/or 720p & 1080i resolutions (read: Hi Deff TV, Plasma, LCD, Digital Projector).

Pal output over S-Video has more resoution and a better colour system compared to NTSC. The only thing good about NTSC is the refresh rate of 60hz (Pals refresh rate is 50hz).
But you can enable PAL60 mode on the xbox which uses Pals resolution and colour system, while uping the refresh rate to 60hz. Again, you'll need a display which can accept this.

I have left the saves on the Xbox HDD and been on XBL countless times without having any problems. But, to be safe just remove them after you have switched over to NTSC Output.

Hi ForceX,

This is my fist time posting to this forum, so I hope i'm not being stupid!
I see you've mentioned your webspace a few times. I want to read everything you have there before posting any questions. Thing is, I don't see how to get to your webspace. I looked at your profile, but didn't see any mention there. Could you point me in the right direction please?

To output the Xbox in High Definition mode on your PC monitor you require a Progressive Scan capable VGA box simliar to This One (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=2&products_id=4233)

Unfortunately the pal gamecube can not output progressive scan, but if your lucky like me and have a ntsc cube then your in luck.

That's not entirely true. While I was doing the deal for my new plasma TV today the salesperson plugged in his gamecube to show me progressive scan on it. His was a PAL cube but he had a special disc he put in first to enable the progressive video mode. The game he was playing (Zero G I think) looked fantastic.

Ahh that must of been with the action replay disc or freeloader, first i've heard that it works with one of them thats great to hear. Once you have played a game in progressive scan you can't go back!

Okay I don't fully understand something so I'd appreciate it if you can help. Lets say everything is going well, you have the Hi-def pack and have changed the options in the dashboard to support the HDTV resolutions. What I don't understand is, you are still running PAL software titles, which surely have no code in them that gets them to run at these HDTV levels and so surely they display just the same as before.

Is there a way to patch these PAL titles for better video support, or are you guys actually only playing NTSC games (which obviously have the code for 720p etc...) on your PAL Xboxes?

Thanks.

ForceX
28-09-2004, 03:01 PM
Abominus the games already have the code in them to output in Progressive scan but Progressive Scan was disabled my MS in the actual Xbox Bios.

And you are no changing the region of your Xbox only the output so all of your Pal games will work fine....

Also, it depends on the Developer of the title on which output mode they support e.g. Most games support 480p and only a handful support 720p and 1080i

ARRRGGGHHHH!!! :ogre:

I've just realised why I hate doing anything like this!

I had 20 minutes today before the shops shut to find a memory card with USB and a copy of Splinter Cell, the right one.

Found SC no problem, and also bought what I thought was a Action Replay kit. It was'nt! Its a ****ing BLAZE XPLODER card. What i did'nt realise was that there are so many different file formats for these games saves for different manufactures! What a complete pain!

The software supplied by Blaze does'nt like ZIPS, so thats me stuffed! £30 down!
Tried some other stuff over at Xbox-scene.com, but that does'nt seem to like the card either.

WHY OH WHY can't I just copy these as FILES! over to the memory card.

Anyone know any neat USB tricks?

I've gone off the idea of doing this now, its been a complete disaster. Failed at the first step. Getting the files up to a USB Memory card!

englishbob
04-10-2004, 06:37 AM
Sussed it!

Removed the BLAZE software and downloaded Action Replay from codejunkies

Under XP / My Computer / Manage / Devices removed the USB Driver for the BLAZE memory card and told it to use a driver located as part of the Action Replay suite, and it worked!!!

Took me a long time to work out that Action Replay uses drag and drop from ANYWHERE, not that stupid PC Database thing.

The mod worked (Splinter Cell). WOW, its so much brighter and crisper! Outrun2 looks awesome now.

Of all the games I tried, Halo was the only one with problems (Jerky, the old PAL50/60 issue)

Thanks guys, you've made my week! :) :)

UPDATE

From the FAQ at the top

Progressive Scan FAQ
You will still be able to play PAL xbox games on your Xbox even if you have it in NTSC mode

Not entirely true. For example, I tried Tiger Woods 03 while in NTSC mode and got no picture. I guess this is one of the few games that just does'nt have a PAL60 route, even if it was only originally 50htz

You might what to update the FAQ. I'll let you know if I find others. I've tried around 20 games so far, so 1 out of 20 ain't bad! :D

Hi ForceX. Got my Mega X Key today so I loaded up the Splinter Cell save. When I load it I get a screen saying "Service required. Call customer support" Also the eject button is flashing red. If I turn off the xbox and then on again all is well. What am I doing wrong. Does the xbox have to be plugged into the high def pack first for this to work. I get my new tv tomorrow so while I have the high def pack I have nothing to plug it into yet. I just wanted to see if I could get the new dashboard to come up.

Cheers for the files ForceX, and the help Englishbob

Did you copy both the Save file and the Vidswitch file across??

I got my running today, and I must say Hi-Def is all it's cracked up to be.

The only annoyances so far, is 4 of my games won't run when in NTSC mode. They are:-

Fight Night 2004 (which i see you have) - This disc is the wrong region!!
PGA Tour 2004 - Freese on the Xbox loading screen
Worms 3D - Freezes on the Xbox loading screen
Timesplitters 2 - Loses TV signal

But you can change it back to PAL, and i'm sure they'd all work fine again.

On my large Plasma Outrun 2 how looks arcade quality for sure, remember the time you first discovered RGB Scart and how clear everything looked. It is time for that feeling again, only this time, X 2 :D

You will need the Action Replay software (Im using 1.31) and when it asks for drivers for the memory card, you point it at the folder you installed the Action replay software to, and select the action replay as the device. It will then think you have an action replay memory card and work a charm. Did this myself today.

The progrssive scan mode in games is nice, but not quite the improvement I had expected, and DVD quality is still just plain poor. I have enabled all the HD modes in the dashboard.

Or am I doing something wrong? :banghead:

Gizmo 76
08-10-2004, 09:33 PM
I pretty sure this won't upgrade the DVD side of things, but I was reading on another forum that the new version of Xbox Media Center will let you use Hi-Def modes and it will up-scale the image to the selected resolutions!?!?

But I don't use Media Center, so I can't confirm this..........

Thanks ForceX, you are are legend!

I installed the "upgrade" on the weekend and hooked the XBOX up to my AE500 projector. I've only got one 720p compatible game, Tony Hawk 4, and holy s**t, the picture is astounding! The clarity and sharpness, especially on the characters' faces is incredible! Close ups of faces looked photorealistic.

All my other games are 480p compatible, and while the picture quality is good, they all looked a bit fuzzy after TH4.

The only problem I've got now is trying to find some decent 720p/1080i compatible games...

And i've got the same thing as the post above, i dont know if my splintercell is original but its definitely not classic, the code on the disc is the same as the one given in your tutorial except for the last two digits, will this matter? Thx.

ForceX
14-10-2004, 12:07 PM
Toejamathon just copy the entire SplinterCell.zip onto the memory card. There is no need to extract the archive and then simply copy the save onto your Xbox HDD.

Also, the codes listed in the Guide are the codes that my versions of the games have. That doesn't mean that your copy won't work - All non-classic versions should work with no hassle.

Also, LiquidTV I myself use an Action Replay and have never once experienced any problems with it.

Secondly, if you have a PAL Xbox then you will need the PAL version of the game.

Additionally, there are no issues connecting to XBL as you are no modding the Xbox. You are simply enabling a feature that is already in the console but has been disabled by MS because back when the Xbox was released they were no sure of the HD standards that we might use in Australia.

Right, I have an Action Replay, an original copy of SC and the SC save game exploit, however when I try to copy the zipped folder to the memory card I get an error message saying "Not a valid Xbox Save"

What am I doing wrong? :(

LiquidTV
17-10-2004, 07:33 AM
Mulletron,
I believe you should find there are actually 2 zipped files. You need to place each zip file separately in the action replay menu (drag & drop).

However, I really need some help myself!!!! I have loaded the Evolution X & the menu screen below appears;

Launch DVD
Trainers
MS dashboard
Reboot
Power Off
System utilities
Launch Menu

I then go to Launch->Apps->Enigma switch & enabled NTSC. I then switched off the Xbox, which appears to NTSC.

However, after I reboot it doesn't give the hi def settings on the Xbox video menu. Is there anything else that I needed to do?

I thought I had a cheap hi def cable (JOYTECH digital AV cable) but I suspect this is possibly the problem?? I am waiting for a proper one to arrive.

Anyone with a similar experience??

Mulletron
17-10-2004, 08:11 AM
LiquidTV

I followed your advice and managed to get the Linux and Splinter Cell files onto the Action Replay card successfully, however when I ran them in the instructed way I just get an error message similar to yours "Your Xbox requires service. Please call Xbox Customer Support."

I only thing left for me to try is to change the Action Replay card for an official memory card. Another blow to my wallet :(

LiquidTV
17-10-2004, 08:32 AM
Mullerton,

Do you have a proper hi definition lead?? I think this is the problem that I have. I have an official xbox card & have basically been messing around until the HDTV & official lead arrives. At the moment I get the same message that you're experiencing. I assume your trying to run the MS dashboard from the menu?

Mulletron
17-10-2004, 08:47 AM
I have the official Hi-Def pack. I'm trying to run EvoX so I can enable the NTSC video modes - that's all I want to do. It'll let you run EvoX, but it won't even let me get that far. I've tried deleting then re-copying the files to the Action Replay card then to the Xbox HDD but to no avail. I just wish the Official Memory Unit wasn't so expensive. I don't know whether to risk buying one then being disappointed again, I've already spent over £50 trying to sort this out - it's just that I've read rumours that the Action Replay card corrupts these sorts of files on purpose. :banghead:

LiquidTV
17-10-2004, 09:06 AM
Yeah, annoying isn't it. I too have bought action replay today which came with it's own 8M memory card. Initially I couldn't transfer the files across & had the same error message as you when trying to transfer them both across together in 1 zip file. However, in the thread ForceX does say to transfer them both together so I borrowed the neighbours official Xbox memory card & but was still unable to copy both together.

As I've previously stated I think it maybe cos I've got the wrong lead as it's running in NTSC but doesn't give me the hi def options in the Xbox settings menu. I don't know if you're supposed to try to apply the MS dashboard on the menu or not. When I try this I get the same as you "Your Xbox requires service. Please call Xbox Customer Support."

A shame ForceX isn't online otherwise we could ask.

Mulletron
17-10-2004, 09:19 AM
Well I can answer your question for you - you need Component Cables connecting the Xbox to the TV in order for the High Definition options to appear. The Joytech Digital AV Cable that you're using is only SCART/S-Video. Once you get your Hi-Def pack they'll appear. So that's you sorted.

Unfortunately, I'm still screwed. It looks like I'm gonna have to buy a Memory Unit. That's me another £25 down.

Mulletron
17-10-2004, 09:21 AM
In fact, could you try and transfer the files across using the Action Replay card instead of the Official one and see if it still works? This would help me. :)

Yeah, annoying isn't it. I too have bought action replay today which came with it's own 8M memory card. I couldn't transfer the files across & had the same error message as you when trying to transfer them both across together in 1 zip file.

ForceX, anyone,

I seem to be running in NTSC but it doesn't give me the hi def options on the Xbox video menu. Is this because I need the hi def lead which will then show these options?

(I know I need this lead to actually receive HDTV this on the LCD, but I'm really just messing around at the moment to see if it will work when they both arrive)

MiNiStRy
17-10-2004, 12:25 PM
Yes mate you need the high def pack to display the options. You don't need the official ones there's plenty of guys on ebay that sell the cheaper versions, unless you want dolby digital out.

LiquidTV
18-10-2004, 12:17 AM
So it looks like it has worked for me except I need the hi def lead which should be arriving within a few days. The normal PAL options are now gone & it's running in NTSC. Just to be sure that when you run the Linux profile you get these options.

Launch DVD
Trainers
MS dashboard
Reboot
Power Off
System utilities
Launch Menu

I then only need go to Launch->Apps->Enigma switch & enable NTSC. Then switch off the Xbox. What's with all the other options?? They don't seem to work anyway. I tried to launch the MS dashboard option, but that just produced an error message.

Well it appears to have worked, although, maybe I should have waited till the lead arrived rather than get all stressed out!!!

LiquidTV

Just as a matter of interest could somebody try the normal Xbox lead & see if these options disappear.

ForceX
18-10-2004, 01:33 AM
I just started up my Xbox with the original AV Cables and the options for High Definition are not there. As mentioned earlier in this thread you require the HD Pack to have access to these modes.

Also, in regards to the issue when some people try to run the MS Dashboard from the Menu and it produces an error this iis because there seems to be an error in the coding of the saves, since the creator seems to have forgotten to add the link to the MS Dashboard.

There is no need to worry though as you can just turn off your Xbox and then the MS Dashboard will start like normal

I just tried playing Fight Night 2004 in HD and it won't run. Says the game is not vaild for this region. It's a PAL game playing on a PAL machine. Anyone else had this problem. I thought this mod let you play all your PAL games, just outputted them in HD

I guess if I want to play this then I will need to undo the mod. I just sold my copy of Splinter Cell on ebay. I might have to tell the buyer I need to keep the game now.

This doesn't happen often, but ForceX I love you. Even though I used a different technique to get progressive scan, you provided the motivation and the knowledge that I wouldn't need to make any internal hardware changes.

Games now look so much better. Rallisport 2 is ridiculously good, and even Counter-strike gets better graphics.

The only thing I'm wondering is whether (for best results) it would be recommended to run in Pal 50 or Pal 60. If these games are running in HDTV resolutions (and thereby NTSC) wouldn't they work best with Pal 50?

Why I ask is because Burnout 3 said I was running at 60Hz and it was also displaying 480P, though it had no problems.

What Pal speed are you guys running at?

p.s Thanks again ForceX, may you live long and prosperously.

Hi all,
I have just received the hi-def lead which I ordered from Lik Sang. I have to say I was very impressed with the service. It only took a few days to arrive & I was able to track online via DHL. The LCD arrives arrives tomorrow so will let you know how I get on when connected to hi-def lead. I was curious as to whether ForceX or someone could provide a full list of games that don't work using the Splinter Cell hack.

These were amongst a few listed in a previous post, has anyone more to add??

I have been a bit lazy for the past few months, as I have a Toshiba 480P compatible TV & haven't upgraded yet. I just bought a projector, and have decide, now is the time to make the jump to High Def. I bought a generic box

http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=716

which I hope will enable hi-def. It had a co-axial sp-dif output, which was a definite plus over the MS HD box & cost a lot less!!

Can someone PM me the latest Splinter Cell save, so I can attempt to switch to HD mode.

Thanks,

hey i know this is a stupid question, but as ive never used the MS HD pack, just how/what does it use to connect the Xbox to your TV? component or S-video. All the pics i see of it just have some cable attached to a little box that look like they have 3/4 RCA connections in it.

beavis
05-11-2004, 03:44 PM
5 rca connectors on the box, 3 for the component cables and 2 for analog stereo, and there is a small hole with a flap covering it for the optical cable.

Apparently the quality of the cables and rca connectors on the new HD pack are alot better than the old HD av pack.

It would be very unfair to get banned for this softmod because USA get HD option.. why not us ( PAL users )

I am from the UK and i came across a Xbox Component Cable pack in GAME, then i wondered why do they sell it since xbox dont support HDTV here :o

I heard rumours that the New Crystal Xbox supports 480p/720p/1080i

Guys this will not get you banned on XBL...This is only turning on a setting in the epprom and not modifying it so you can play copied games etc....

MS are only banning people who either have suspious files on their Xbox HDD's and people who are using modchips etc....

Also, the Crystal Xboxes don't support HD modes out of the box as my brother just brought one a short while ago....

Btw if I can recommend one game you all want to test in HD mode: Amped 2 (must be available low price now). Even if you dislike this kind of game, just realizing the benefits from using fill HDTV support is worth buying it. Mountains are awesome, details wonderful, you can see far far away and well ... just try and enjoy ;)

Cheers!

Hi FOrceX,

I'm new, I only bought my X box recently. I enjoyed hi def VGA on my DC and loved it and was disapointed to find the PAL X box disabled. Thanks for all the work on this topic, very helpful.

I'd really appreciated if you could send me the Splinter Cell save file as well. Also I'm confused as to whether I need the Action relpay thingy or will an X Box Pad to USB cable and memory card do the trick by themselves. And do you have address for windows drivers which will let my PC talk to the memory card.

Thanks,

U31

Hi,

could ForceX (or someone else) please e-mail me the required files to enable the prog.scan output. Also short description about how the files should be placed in the Action Replay (folders etc.) would be nice to receive (or is it so simple that even I cannot fail that?). I have the MechAssault (with codes MS02301L-L0 and -L1 (in the same disc)), so I would need the save file for that game. I think (/hope) I will receive the Action Replay today, so I hope someone could send the files also today, so I could test the SC2 in the evening.

Please send them to tpatana@mail.student.oulu.fi

Thanks for help,

Tero

I have not yet received the files from anyone (ForceX is away maybe?), so could someone please post me the files for MechAssault (with Action Replay) to tpatana@mail.student.oulu.fi

I will notify here when I have received the files, so I won't get 1000 emails with the files.

Thanks for helping me out in this, Tero

Same thing, if anybody can ship me the splinter cell game save at davibo@msn.com.

Thanks :)

BTW: Anyone know if the other save game hack files in the internet are the same as these distributed by ForceX? I mean, I can find some of them with google, but I want to be careful with the Live, so I want such modification which only alters the output, and does nothing else.

I read some descriptions for those others, and they seemed to install something more, I think.

I think they mainly add Enigma which is needed to switch from NTSC to PAL ... I would also prefer to wait for somebody to mail it, but it looks like all buddies from this thread are gone. I posted my request two days ago and received nothing :(

I'm not sure if ForceX is about at the moment, so if anyone out there already has his gamesave for MechAssault could they PM or email it to me?

My email is PeterGilboy@hotmail.com

Cheers!

Thanks funkychuncks! But actually you're right, links are broken. SO if you can as stated mail the files to davibo@msn.com, that would be perfect!

Thanks Mark for the email. For some reason, the SC.zip didn't work, but I have MA (not SC) so that's no problem for me.

However, as I hoped that the Action Replay would have arrived today, seems that it didn't :banghead: It should be here tomorrow though, so tomorrow I get to test the SC2 with 720p :spin: :ko:

Hope I know what to do, so that I don't mess up the console, let alone the Live ban.

tpatana, can you send sc.zip and ma.zip in two separate mails to my address pls? davibo@msn.com

I'm dying to get those files :)

Thanks, D.

I did send them in separate emails, but the other one came back to me as failure of delivery.

Not enough space? They are quite large attachments...

Are they legal to distribute? As I have my own wab page, I could upload them on my page.

Mahadeva

Well I know Forcex uploaded but don't know. If you use Messenger, add me to your buddy list (i'm connected now) using the same address. Otherwise i stay online, you upload them, nofity me by pm (with URL), i donwload and you erase. Deal?

Silly Halo 2 question ?
According to a previous post and www.hdtvarcade.com, Halo 2 does not support anything higher then 480p. So are we getting any benefit from trying to get HD for Halo 2 ?
There seems to only be a very, very small number of games that support HD anyway at this stage right ?

Hemoi.

Thanks for the links Funky Chunks, unfortunately the page seems to be down!! Would you or anyone else be able to send the files to
dannyroberts@optusnet.com.au

I shouldn't have any problem with mailbox limits.

Thanks,

Can someone confirm this, either that it can lead to ban, or that it doesn't lead.

Yee! Just received the Action Replay.

I suppose I have to take the risk with the Live, and just do the modification and hope&pray.

Yii! The modification was easy as taking candy from store :) Now 480p and 720p are enabled. I have 3rd party component output, and I suspect that it creates some problems to the picture quality though. I ordered the official MS HD pack from dvdboxoffice (~25 eur) so I hope it makes the picture perfect.

Tomorrow will see if the Live has been locked. Hope not.

please send me the gamesave for splinter cell and mechassault. wolfybiscuts@hotmail.com

also I would like to ask a few things Im after high def on my pal xbox. And am going over my options.

1. If I get my xbox modded can i freely go between ntsc and pal on the dash? and I dont have to do the swap load with the splinter cell and mech games to revert back to pal?

2. Does a modded xbox only need the high def cables to use high definition? feature

3. I have seen a device online at gadgetaus.com called a high definition component adapter claiming it has automatic format selection with devices including xboxes and is capable of high def. Does anyone know if I have to install the gamesaves to open up the option on the xbox dash, or will this device make my xbox run in high def just by plugging it in?

Any help would be great thankyou

Firstly, great thread, thanks to all the contributors.

Second  to Microsoft for having such a stupid limitation to PAL XBox's in the first place. Obviously the box is capable of it, otherwise these kind of softmods wouldn't work, so why not just let everyone enjoy the benefits of higher resolution no matter where we are. In forcing people to soft mod, they are encouraging people to explore a mod community they may have ignored before. I don't want to copy games, I don't want to import games, I just want to watch the games I buy at the highest possible resolution on my projector. None of this should be necessary.

Thirdly, trying to use the splinter cell exploit with an Action Replay card, and not having a whole lot of luck to be honest. The exploit I have isn't recognised as an official gamesave, so the action replay software won't allow me to put it on the card. I wonder whether my exploit is knackered, so...

Could someone please send me the splinter cell exploit that seems to be doing the rounds. email is paulellis@btinternet.com (which is already spammed to high heaven), or PM me and I'll give you a more confidential email address.

Alternatively, anyone know what I am doing wrong on the Action replay. This will be just about the only thing I'll use it for, so I'd rather make it work than resort to another £15 for a USB cable or something.

And, again, thanks to all the contributors, and especially FORCEX for starting it off in the first place.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Cheers

Just a quick note to say I no longer need the Splinter Save Game (Cheers James!!).

Now I just need the HD Cable. Come on Postie, bring it on.

Thanks again for the thread. You's all great!
